MURFREESBORO, Tenn. Skek Boutique hosted a fashion show to spotlight a wide range of handmade jewelry from Jewels by Syd on Nov. 17 and 18 at 638 Dallas Court in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Savannah Jackson opened the online women’s clothing shop in February 2017. She holds fashion shows to spotlight the latest products in the marketplace, including dresses, pantsuits, blouses, scarfs, gloves, coats and jewelry.

Her latest fashion show featured new fall clothing, as well as jewelry. She had several different racks with new fall items. Attendees also had the opportunity to buy on-sale summer items.

More than 15 people attended the event on Friday and Saturday. Attendees enjoyed complimentary appetizers and drinks during the event.
Jackson said her goal was to help bring more clientele to her business. Her pop-up shops and/or fashion shows are a big draw for fashion enthusiasts.

“I have already learned so much in just this short period of time, but there is still definitely more to learn,” the boutique owner said.

Sydney Uselton of Jewels by Syd attended the event, showing her jewelry and answering questions. She sells bracelets and necklaces that range in price from $10-$50. Uselton’s jewelry is the perfect statement piece to wear.

Uselton, who recently started her small business, said, “She loves it so far and hopes to see substantial growth in the next few years.”

Jackson, who started her clothing store online, plans to open a physical store in Murfreesboro in August 2018. She plans to open at least two more in the next five years.

Just like anyone, Jackson faces big challenges. The biggest challenge for her has been figuring out what works and “jives” her. Jackson has had her online business up and running for a year now. Everything for her has been trial and error.

“Working for yourself is not easy,” Said Jackson. “It’s on you if your business fails.”

There are many responsibilities of being a small business owner. The biggest for her is buying merchandise, marketing for her brand, and of course keeping up with the latest fashion trends. But what lots of people don’t see and realize is behind-the-scenes action. That includes going over the line sheets, managing finances, and filling orders. These are just a few of the important responsibilities that come with the job.

“Like I said before, I have such a passion for fashion it is more of a hobby than it is even work,” the fashion expert added. “The money is just a reward. I plan to do this for the rest of my life.”

The boutique owner loves so many things about her job. Jackson’s favorite thing is empowering women and helping them to feel confident about themselves.
Jackson, who was born and raised in Murfreesboro, graduated from Oakland High School in 2017.

Jackson, who is 18, is younger than the typical business owner. Her family has had a big impact in her life. Some of her family members are small business owners as well, and she looks up to them. She has a passion for the fashion industry and feels that working in this industry will be exciting for her. It’s like her hobby more than a job.
