Welcome Back Students (Finally)!

SMYRNA — It’s been snowy and rainy at times, but the winter doldrums can’t keep us away. We are finally getting back into the groove for Spring Semester 2024. 

Welcome back students!

Now that classes are meeting on-ground again, it’s time to celebrate. Please drop by the MLA Lobby anytime from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday or Thursday (Jan. 31 or Feb. 1) for our Club and Resource Days. 

The Student Government Association will provide complementary snacks as you roam the room to learn more about Motlow’s student organizations and opportunities. Visit individual tables to meet faculty advisers and sign up for future activities, including field trips, games, movie nights, and even a talent show.

Welcome Letter to Motlow Smyrna Students

Hello Students!

I want to welcome you to what I hope to be your best semester to date!  Speaking directly from the offices of the deans and speaking on behalf of our great faculty and staff, we are excited you have chosen Motlow to be a partner in your educational pursuit.

What phenomenal growth and opportunities our Campus is experiencing.  For you returning students, you have witnessed this growth made manifest from groundbreaking to opening of Smyrna 3.  For you freshmen, you are seeing this through the enrollment of your friends and neighbors. State of the art classrooms, equipment and distant educational opportunities. A new library, new computer labs, new offices. I encourage you to avail yourself to the resources never before offered. I encourage you to seek resources not yet before you. I encourage you to create opportunities, set goals, and aspire for greatness as we walk together. Let us continue to be a campus and a community who are working together to ensure success and promote a standard of excellence.

In closing, let us master what is before us but not settle in complacency.

Welcome to the Spring 2019 semester! As the cold air moves over us and the days begin to lengthen, we pause for a moment to look ahead, and see what we will achieve together this semester. Many of you are climbing towards your goals, working to balance your course workload with your personal lives, and dreaming of the heights you can reach equipped with the education and perspective you cultivate at our college.

The Smyrna Campus is filled with anticipation and excitement as our college continues to flourish, grow and expand our footprint. You have chosen to attend the fastest growing community college in the state of Tennessee, and one of the fastest growing campuses in the United States. As students, you will remember this time in our history. It is a time of change, a time of things to come, a time of construction as we build not only new facilities, but life long bonds, friendships, memories, and more fulfilling lives and careers filled with purpose. Our campus is being molded by the growth in Rutherford County, the service we are committed to giving the community, by the Tennessee Promise and Tennessee Reconnect initiatives, and most importantly by the faculty, staff and leadership that implement their most precious resource, time, to make sure your future and your children’s futures are improved. We as faculty, staff and leadership join you on this journey of education. We are here to encourage you and to celebrate with you as you succeed.

As the third building rises in mass and grandeur, you too are rising. You will rise above all challenges and complete the work ahead of you in stages, slowly, steadily and with precision. Many of you will graduate this spring and will move forward on your path to universities or careers. We look forward to celebrating this accomplishment with you. Welcome Letter From Motlow Smyrna Academic Dean Elizabeth Fitch

      

        Welcome Smyrna Students, Faculty and Staff!

        What excitement and energy we are experiencing with the kick off of the semester! The campus is truly buzzing with the return of our faculty and students. I am sure you have all noticed the construction on campus. We have ample additional parking this fall, which was badly needed, and the steel is finally going up for our new 82,000-square-foot facility. To put the building’s size into perspective, the Mary Lou Apple Building is approximately 35,000 square feet, and the Art Walker Jr. Building is around 17,000 square feet. The new building is scheduled to open next fall and will have more square footage than our two current buildings combined! We are all looking forward to new office space, a new library, 25 new classrooms, a state-of-the-art “One-Stop Shop”, and seven new science and mechatronics labs. There will be much more study space for students and a cyber café as well.

        Students, I know many of you are excited, nervous, apprehensive, and perhaps will feel overwhelmed at times this year. Please know that we have teams of people on campus ready to help you, encourage you, offer support, point you in the right direction when you need it, and celebrate with you when you achieve your academic goals. Your professors care. Talk to them if you are struggling in class. They are the first line of individuals who can guide you through course material. We also have completion coaches on campus, and you all have one assigned to you. These coaches are ready to help you find direction and assistance when you feel discouraged and overwhelmed. We also have a very caring front office staff who are ready to assist you with financial aid, business office, and admissions questions. Within our Student Success Center we have a Math Lab and Writing Center with qualified instructors ready to assist you in completing math and writing assignments. Additionally, we have some tutors in this area. Our library staff are kind, waiting with coffee, and quietly cheering you on as you take the time to focus, study, perform, and retain the information you need to succeed.

        You might be asking yourself, can I do this? The only things you can’t do, are the things you tell yourself you can’t do. It’s okay to ask for help, and finding the courage to ask for help is one of life’s biggest challenges. Your dreams can become reality. We are ready to help you achieve them. In the words of our president, Dr. Michael Torrence, let’s go! Let’s make the future a bright one. Let’s make it all we’ve dreamed of. Don’t let you, hold you back. Let’s go!
